Vacation and family residence with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean
On the Atlantic coast, just under two hours' drive from the vibrant capital of Lisbon, amidst a breathtaking landscape of sand dunes and lush coastal vegetation, an exclusive place of retreat and tranquillity has been created.
As internationally active high performers, the clients wanted an individually designed, luxurious residence where the family, who live in different countries, could come together, spend time together and relax. The choice of location was easy for the passionate golfers: “West Cliffs”, one of the most beautiful, sustainably built golf resorts in the world, is located in the immediate vicinity and they were already familiar with it from numerous vacations.
The villa was designed and planned by the renowned Portuguese architect Frederico Valsassina. RN Arquitectura - Rodrigo Nero was commissioned with the execution. The timelessly modern, striking architecture is inspired by the spirit of the mid-century. It reflects the natural surroundings shaped by the harsh climate of the Atlantic coast. Vertical wooden slats give the house a special character and at the same time offer protection from the weather and sunlight. Inside, the cubic structure and the cavities create a unique interplay of light and shadow.
Basic concept of the interior design
A particular attraction was to create a symbiosis between the exterior and interior. A symbiosis between the expressive architecture shaped by nature and a homely, high-quality interior that reflects the personal style and preferences of the client.
In order to reflect the rough, original character of the landscape in the living spaces, only natural materials such as various wood textures, marble, lime plaster walls and special decorative surfaces with quartz powders and metallized effects were chosen for the interior fittings. On the one hand, the natural materials convey a feeling of warmth, they make the rooms glow and allow the house to breathe. On the other hand, they guarantee durability in terms of substance and aesthetics in the demanding coastal climate.
A special challenge
We were commissioned to design the interiors in 2018 and implementing our concept during the coronavirus pandemic was a particular challenge. We were forced to implement the design project without being able to accompany the processes on site. Video calls, drone footage and emails replaced this. The architect and site manager Rodrigo Nero played a key role in the success of the project. With tireless dedication and great attention to detail, he implemented the interior design we had planned 1:1.
The villa in Portugal was the client's second project for which we were commissioned with the planning and conception of the interior design. In a collaboration characterized by appreciation and mutual trust, a result was achieved that translates the client's high standards of quality, aesthetics and individuality into a homely and luxurious ambience.

Landscape as interior
The floor-to-ceiling glass fronts and doors create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces. On more than 360 m2 of living space, the rooms open out into nature, while floor-to-ceiling sliding windows allow the veranda with outdoor kitchen, the garden and the pool to become an integral part of the living area.

Charming interplay
The rugged character of the Atlantic coast is reflected in the architectural design, while the interior exudes a luxurious homeliness that is characterized by the preferences of the client.
Cosmopolitan elegance
The open and spacious living and dining area forms the heart of the house. The carefully selected colors, materials, metalwork, furniture and lighting objects create a cosmopolitan ambiance, in whose lightness and transparency individual elements set elegant accents.

Natural design
Natural fibres, various wood textures, marble, walls made of lime plaster, decorative surfaces made of quartz powder with a metallic effect - the natural materials lend the living atmosphere lightness and warmth.

Private oasis of relaxation
Dressing room, bathroom, spa area and bedroom form the spacious room of the master suite. The floor and walls in Bianco Perlino marble as well as the dressing room and washbasin in walnut characterize the elegantly luxurious aesthetics of the interior. The back walls of the bed and seating niche echo the vertical wooden slats in the outdoor area. The metal fittings of the dressing room, the bedside tables and the fittings are made to measure. Nature also provides a special highlight in this room: the floor-to-ceiling glazed window front provides a spectacular panoramic view of the expanse of rolling meadows and the Atlantic Ocean

Retreat and encounter
While the living space invites people to come together, the three suites with access to the garden and atrium as well as the home office, which is directly accessible from the outside, are designed as separate areas. A concept that allows guests and owners to retreat to their own private space at any time.
